LSC Foundation 2022 Appeal for donations

October 14, 2022

Dear LSC Foundation Supporter,

The statistics below are ample reason to donate to the LSC Foundation to support the youth of the Northeast Kingdom further their education and help change the demographics of our area.

Last year many of you responded to our simple message: No kids, no college. We stated our goal of providing scholarship assistance for one student from each of the high schools in the Northeast Kingdom. Thanks to your help, we awarded seven, $2500 scholarships to graduating seniors this spring.

Recently VT Governor Phil Scott outlined the state’s labor and demographic challenges at a symposium in Essex Junction. While Vermont’s population grew a bit overall, not so in Caledonia County (-3.2%) nor in Essex County (-6.2%) Those counties have also experienced a 15% or greater decline in the labor force plus an 11.9 % decline in K-12 enrollment. Scott correctly noted that those figures add more pressure on the Vermont State College System.

With your support we hope to help more students stay in the NEK at NVU-Lyndon (soon to be Vermont State University Lyndon). Some of those will be the teachers, nurses, childcare providers, and tech workers we need in the NEK. Again, it’s simple. We need to help our youth be in the kingdom and stay in the Kingdom.

The more we are able to raise, the more students we can help. Join our supporters now and reap the benefit of ensuring a college in the Northeast Kingdom. Just imagine what this area would be like without a college, as Foundation members we don’t want to even imagine the hole that would be left. Join us now in our commitment by donating.  Mail a check to Lyndon State College Foundation, 98 Washington Avenue, St. Johnsbury, Vt. 05819 or by visiting our website at LyndonStateCollegeFoundation.com and donating with credit card.

Sincerely,

Lorraine Impey

LSC Foundation Funds our scholarship with an $18,000
By Lori Impey April 6, 2021
We are pleased Derrick Litz made the decision to attend NVU-Lyndon and that our $2500 scholarship helped make his decision easier. This year we are looking to gift a scholarship to a senior from each of the High Schools in the Northeast Kingdom. This is made possible by the help of our supporters. Thank you to all of you who help us keep local students furthering their careers at NVU-Lyndon.

LSC Foundation Scholarship for Vermonters, est. 1977A
December 18, 2019
November 15, 2019 Dear LSC Foundation Supporter, The LSC Foundation is appealing to you for a donation that will increase funds we make available to NVU-Lyndon for scholarships for NEK students. We are committed to the NEK and further education of students living here with the hopes they will remain in the area to further their careers or to start their own businesses. Any donation large or small is appreciated. We have enclosed a brochure so you can learn more about us. Visit our website as well at www.lyndonstatecollegefoundation.com to view our past fundraising events to raise money or to actually donate by credit card through the site. We are sure you have all heard the recent news of small colleges closing in New England. We feel the college on land TN Vail donated to the State of Vermont should always have a college on it. NVU-Lyndon is an economic engine to the whole business community of the Northeast Kingdom. You might wish to talk to your tax advisor about charitable gifts of appreciated stock or mutual funds—you will get the charitable deduction without paying capital gains. If you are over 70 ½, your mandatory distribution from an IRA is another consideration for gifting. Thank you so much. Please get in touch with any of the foundation’s executive committee members if you have questions. We are a non-profit organization. Donations are tax exempt as provided by section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Sincerely, Lorraine Impey, President
